E-Commerce Basics

e-commerce

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

In keeping with the broad strokes approach to exploring the various business models being used today, I’ll look at e-commerce at a very fundamental level here and expand upon it in a near-future post.

When someone completely new to the web (are there any real newbies anymore?) :?: begins the process we all went through at some point… hmmnnn…there must be some way to make money on this internet thing…. one of the easiest to visualize (as opposed to pro blogging) is opening a web store. It’s easy to imagine why, it’s the closest thing to the bricks and mortar commerce world we are all completely comfortable with. Most would-be shopkeepers probably think they have some idea of what they’ll need to get going too. The basics…a name for your store, some stuff to sell and a location, location, location. How to choose a domain name, which is also about location in the virtual world, find one that’s actually available and how to get it known are each major subjects on their own and I’ll treat them as such by attacking them in depth in a follow-on post as well as refer you to some of the excellent work already out there in the sphere.

Finding the stuff to sell is of course a whole new blogs worth of material, especially if you add in the selling of someone else’s stuff as an affiliate! But leaving aside affiliate marketing for now, wholesale purchasing and drop-shipping are where you begin to source your products.

This is a subject I have some considerable experience with, in researching and finally opening The Treasure Ark. You may want to take a quick look there as I will be referring to different features of the site in reviewing how it was started and where we intend to take it from here.

Remember, the netbusinessjournal is about joining me on my journey of discovery as I learn what does and doesn’t work to make money online.
