Information Overload - How to Keep From Drowning in the ‘Net

NetBuisness 101

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It wasn’t that long ago that I started this trek onto the info superhighway, determined to find a way to use what had been an amusing time-waster (and occasionally useful source of recipes) into the “cash machine” I kept hearing my little Mac laptop was really supposed to be, courtesy of the ‘net!

You know what I’m talking about. The endless spam messages claiming an easy road to riches by “leveraging the power of the internet!” Somewhere along the way, and over an extended period of time, I began to filter out the fluff and learn that there are indeed several ways to make some money, maybe even a living, online!

Just to back up a little bit and provide some context, my last career afforded me a whole lot of time sitting around in airport business lounges with nothing but time and, usually, a wireless net connection to take advantage of. I couldn’t leave the lounge in case my passengers showed up suddenly ready to go home, which top level biz execs are known to do…that’s why they buy the plane to begin with.

So I either slumped over in the leather recliner and entered the ongoing snoring contest with all of my fellow corporate pilots…or I found something more productive to do. That’s when I spent (wasted?) alot of time cutting through the aforementioned fluff.

Of course that’s also when I got dragged under the tidal waves of information that you can so easily drown in, and ended up with little to show in the way of progress towards a goal as popular as making money online.

I’m convinced that every money making concept based on the promise of the internet…the staggering numbers of potential customers/clients…has at least a dozen gurus who have mastered the secret you need to know to join them on that beach they’re writing to you from.

Now before you decide I’m laying on the sarcasm a little too thick, let me just say this; I have bought more than a few of the offerings of the experts…been disappointed by some…and very pleasantly surprised by a few others. The best of the useful guides I have examined warrant their own review articles and those will be coming soon here.

But the main point of this article is that if you start with a basic idea, let’s say affiliate sales, and put that in Google you’ll obviously come up with too many choices to investigate everything that shows up on the first two results pages. In fact you may not get past the first two or three results (out of about 68.5 million btw) because of the never ending linking you’ll inevitably follow, possibly for days, because at this stage of the game so many expert marketers have learned how to so effectively package their information products that every new link seems to hold some promise of being the one you need to follow.

But at what point do you take some action…and what action?? Do you buy the book or course that sounds so real, so realistic?? Remember, some of them are that good! Even with the unconditional guarantees, you still feel nervous about shelling out real money for some ebook

So maybe you’re thinking: ” There seems to be sooo much info out there if I can just dig it out and put it together I’m sure I’ll know enough to get started.” Are you ever really going to start something that way? Or maybe…”hey I went to Blogger and got this blog started for no money at all…see I knew I didn’t need any marketing course!” Hmmnnn…try that as a business plan and see where it gets you!

My thoughts on this have evolved thusly: If your going to spend a lot of time in front of the computer “researching” business ideas anyway, spend it finding a few people, bloggers are a good place to start, that you can feel an instinctive trust in. Look elsewhere in this site and you’ll find some of those I feel that way about….Yaro Starak, Wendy Piersall, Cody Moya Rosalind Gardner and others…and consider the fact that they have invested much of themselves, maybe money or maybe just time and effort, into becoming that mentor figure you might just need to push you to take the action you really wanted to take in the first place.

Take the leap of faith and invest just what you need to to get the guidance that puts you on the path to success, however it is you define that success. You may just be able to escape the flood of information you could otherwise be mired in endlessly…and find the door to the opportunity you’ve been searching for.
